Loft conversions can take longer than you might think! While building new areas to your property can be quite quick, loft conversions must gut out the existing space, insulate the loft, re-build the interior, then decorate to your specs, all while keeping the roof intact and safe! Generally it's a safe bet to set aside 2-6 months for the conversion to be completed, with Velux conversions being the shortest and hip to gable conversions being the longest.
An average price target we go for is Velux conversions: £15k - £25k, Dormer: £20k - £45k, Mansard: £25k - £50k and Hip To Gables: £40l - £65k.
Usually, you'll need planning permission for all kinds of loft conversions except Velux conversions. This is because Velux conversions don't change the overall shape of the roof, while the others do. All a Velux conversion does is add skylights to the roof. Of course, you should always check with your local authority first!
